International Karen
organization
The
International Karen Organization, consisted of Karen communities living in the
Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and North America, was formed on September 20th,
2014. The IKO will work directly with Karen communities and organizations
inside Burma, as well as on the Thai-Burma border, in order to inform and
educate international community about the conditions regarding peace and
conflict, human rights, and sustainable development in Karen State. Likewise,
the IKO will work with other communities and organizations from other ethnic
nationalities to achieve the establishment of a genuine democratic federal
union of Burma based upon the principles of equality, justice, and
self-determination.
The
IKO will work with Karen communities in more than 30 countries to uphold the
Karen values and aspirations as well as maintain and promote the Karen culture,
literature, language, and traditions. Finally the IKO will work closely with
Karen National Union, a genuine representative organization of the Karen people
to achieve a lasting peace and political settlement after 65 years of civil war
in Burma while upholding the principles of Saw Ba U Gyi.
